I didn't think my life would change too drastically while pregnant... Boy was I wrong! I have noticed a lot of changes going on, and it's not just this growing belly. I have found some pregnancy essentials that are key to surviving these 9 months of this new life.
This is the best oil ever. I rub this on my belly and anywhere I think (and now have) stretch marks would appear. We bought this while on our cruise when I was just 6 weeks along and was told it was great for stretch marks and during the prenatal period. This is a part of my night routine now and I feel like it's helped big time in preventing stretch marks.
Another must have oil! Even with summer upon us, my skin has been very dry and coconut oil has been a great rejuvenator. I take about a scoopful and lotion it into my legs and arms to hydrate them. Also, I am totally missing out on that shiny hair during pregnancy myth so I apply this to my ends right before my shower and then wash as usual.
If you are struggling with finding good prenatal vitamins, I highly recommend these! I tried some given to me by my doctor, and also bought these giant capsule ones that were impossible to swallow. I was kind of leery switching over to gummies, but I found these had a lot of nutrients packed in them and made me feel better. The flavor of these are super tolerable and almost yummy ha!
Two words: pregnancy. pants. I'll admit caving and purchasing pregnancy shorts was hard at first but once I slipped them on they were life changing! No more were the days of tight pants and lines on my sides. My sweet friend recently gave me her maternity jeans, which couldn't have come at a better time because my leggings no longer fit me and I've been stuck in my few pairs of maternity shorts. If you are on the fence and growing out of your pants, take the leap and invest in a few maternity bottoms!
Something I keep forgetting to mention in my pregnancy updates, is how I've been experiencing heartburn. I had been feeling a really bad burning sensation in the back of my throat which I did not know was heartburn! I have been experiencing it since around 22 weeks and was advised by other mamas to get tums. These work so quickly and have been a purse essential for me because of how frequently heartburn comes up. If you want to hear more pregnancy updates, I just uploaded my 26 week video! Time is flying with this pregnancy and I'm so anxious to meet our little girl!
The infamous "Pregnancy Glow". Any women who has been pregnant knows how coveted that pregnancy glow compliment is! Even when you feel like a total wreck or have zero energy, remember it's okay: you are growing a human! I have been very lucky to have such an easy pregnancy so far, but even with that being said, it's been rough on my body and sleep schedule. Here are some great ways to get that glow back or keep it there until baby arrives.
This has been my biggest struggle during this pregnancy, because I'm the type of person that needs my 9-10 hours of shut eye. BUT with a kicking little firecracker in me, I've lost a lot of sleep. Whether you are pregnant or not, sleep is so vital to your health and well-being. Find ways to get comfortable at night whether that include a fan, sound machine, 7 pillows, or a sleeping mask! If your schedule allows, try taking a short nap during the day to regain some energy.
Confidence Boosting Clothes
I'll be the first to admit, my body changing took it's toll on me. I would slip on a shirt that wouldn't cover my belly, or attempt to zip up a dress that fit perfectly before and almost lose my mind. It was hard to come to terms that it's not just my belly expanding, but my whole body is undergoing changes. I have relied heavily on Pink Blush Maternity not only for comfortable, well-fitting clothes, but also for confidence. They have such gorgeous pieces that don't look over the top maternity and are so on point with fashion trends. This cute little number can be found here. My absolute favorite color is teal and I felt so confident and beautiful in this outfit- which is something I have been missing for a little bit!
If you were heavily in the gym before, or a couch potato, staying active is so important to maintain that glow! I have found great prenatal yoga and exercises on youtube that make me feel so rejuvenated and regain my energy. If you aren't already, incorporate walks or simple exercises to keep your limbs stretched, as well as baby ready!
I think this may be a no brainer for most, but it's something I have to remind myself of daily! I have noticed a huge difference when I have water throughout the day and it's one of the best things you can do for you and baby. It is especially important to stay hydrated in the last trimester, but you should have a goal of drinking about 10 glasses a day. While having water is encouraged, having things that contain plenty of water too can help with your intake. Not only will staying hydrated give you that pregnancy glow, but it can also help keep swelling at bay.
This has been a huge struggle, because this old wive's tale is so true. She is stealing all of my "beauty" and I have been having breakouts and blemishes since finding out I was pregnant. I know it's not true for all, but this has put a huge damper on my overall pregnancy glow! ha I have been having to take extra care of my skin, washing it more thoroughly, using moisturizer, and making sure to remove all of my makeup at night. Taking care of your skin is so vital, through pregnancy and not, so don't skimp on the face wash! I will be having a post soon on my favorite products so stay tuned!
Have you been told you have the pregnancy glow? I would love to hear how you are thriving through pregnancy, share your tips mamas! I hope everyone has a happy and safe Memorial Day weekend. I am spending the weekend in Utah with family and we will also be having a baby shower which is super exciting.
Deployments, training, TDY: suck. Not only dealing with everything that comes with the distance, but for most families it is a huge change and adjustment period.
When J was deployed, I loved putting together care packages! I quickly learned the do's and don'ts of what to pack and wanted to share some ideas of what to send to overseas to your other half.
First, getting the supplies is a must need. USPS is amazing and has a military care kit put together for our servicemembers, and it's free! Also, it is commonly asked what to pack in a care package. Environmental stipulations can vary, depending on if there is a microwave, internet, or kitchen appliances available. Make sure you find out these details from your spouse so you can verify everything sent can be used.
What to include:
-mac n cheese
-ramen in cup
- protein powder or shake mix
-Sudoku or word games
-Cards Against Humanity (email them to get a free set sent overseas!)
-Game system game
-iTunes gift card
-Amazon gift card (download movies and games and they ship to APO!)
-date night movies
-flash drive with movies and music already downloaded
-twin size sheets
-pictures from home
-4th of July - patriotic
-"Orange you glad it's summer?" -have an orange color or flavored theme
- Stay cool - have a mint flavored or blue theme
-Hello Sunshine -yellow theme
-Summer Bod - send work out gear and healthy options
-Summer Date Night - date night essentials
Baby showers are all about showering the mom with love, playing funny games, and good food! I am having two baby showers in the next few months (perks of living away from family!) and I have been looking at ideas and different themes like crazy. What I've realized is no matter what theme you go with, the food is so important and man do I have the perfect recipe for you!
Baby in a blanket. Adorable right?! Coming from Texas, kolaches are a staple. They are basically glorified pigs in a blanket, and I love making this quick snack, so why not share it with family and friends! This appetizer recipe is only 3 ingredients, it's literally that easy and it will definitely be the talk of the party!
Pepperidge Farm Puff Pastry Sheets, sesame seeds, and hot dogs with cheese inside. Normally pigs in a blanket are made with sausage, but I love these hot dogs because the cheese is already in them and it's less of a mess when baking them. The puff pastry sheets are such a great alternative as opposed to the standard crescent rolls because they get super fluffy and taste delicious.
Check outthis Pinterest board for more springtime recipe ideas!
I let the Pepperidge Farm Puff Pastry sheets sit out for 40 minutes to defrost. This gave me time to prep the oven for 375 and get the hot dogs cut in half. When they have defrosted enough, I cut each sheet into halves, and then triangles. I started rolling up the hot dog in it, leaving a good portion of the top of the "head" out so it could resemble a baby wrapped in a blanket. I have a video tutorial that will be linked below for better demonstration!
The sesame seeds bring these little babies to life! I just placed two seeds to look like eyes and then lined them up on a cookie sheet, baking them about 10-15 minutes until the pastry had puffed up. And that's IT! These are ready to serve, or you can store them in a container to freeze until your baby shower! These are so yummy on their own, but can pair great with your favorite dipping sauce.
Seriously, how adorable are these babies in a blanket?! If you are hosting a baby shower, or need to bring a yummy treat, these are the perfect solution! If you want to get inspiration for other appetizer or dessert ideas, check them out below!
Gender reveals are the reason I get up in the morning. Okay, totally kidding but I LOVE seeing the creative ways parents have been announcing their newest family member! While there are so many ways you can announce this special moment, I have found 8 creative gender reveals that will make your announcement stand out.
If you are planning on announcing soon and are still stuck on how to do it, check out these creative ways expecting parents have announced and revealed!
Team Pink or Blue
This is how we announced we are having a GIRL! My husband told me when we first found out I was pregnant, that I have full control of announcing the baby, and he gets to choose how we announce the gender. We are huge Utah Jazz fans and had a custom made jazz jersey made to announce our little one! The back has her name and her jersey number. We teased our family and friends by first showing it in black and white and having them guess. This is a great and creative way to incorporate you and your husband's favorite team, revealing if it's team pink or blue!
We also were featured on Utah Jazz's instagram page, so that pretty much made our day too!
Involving older siblings can be such a fun twist as opposed to just the two of you, and can really show your family's personality! Elisa M. had the creative idea of having her boys blast her with the color of what their new sibling will be.
Smoke Bomb Surprise
This is probably the most on trend gender reveal at the moment, but seriously it's so cute, how could it not be?! Ambrel D. and her mister were smoked with their little one's announcement and that color is just gorgeous! This could be a fun twist and having your family members find out before you and surprise you as well as the rest of the party. I personally didn't have the self control to be surprised, but if you can do it I would find a friend or two you trust with the secret and be shocked with everyone else.
If you are more of a simple gal and don't want to go over the top, a minimalist announcement may be for you! Emily C. shared her little boy's gender by adding a bow tie and prince crown to a flat lay of her baby. Such a simple yet impactful photo, and can be customized for either gender and your personal style and taste!
What's more thrilling then being splattered with paint on the beach? Such a fun surprise while getting a little messy! Trust a friend or family member to splatter you with paint and get splattered! You can find out more on this from Pinterest!
Don't want it to just be you two enjoying all the fun? Involve the whole family! You can get creative by using a covered jar and having everyone throw the revealed powder, or switch it out for silly string. This one is super fun and the options are limitless, and the whole family can enjoy the fun and surprise together.
Reveal the baby's gender with some colored confetti and crack open the pinata to reveal the surprise! You can find out how to make this yourself here.
Want to announce during a certain holiday? This is the perfect way to do so! Eggs for Easter, pumpkin for Halloween, small present for Christmas, etc. This one you can get super creative with and it will surely stand out and make the holiday so memorable!
